We failed to reflect on the "revolution" that broke out in Armenia in 2018, that is, to assess what had happened through a careful self-observation and come to adequate conclusions, as well as learn from the mistakes.
Let us observe what actually happened in April 2018, leaving aside the opinions, perhaps justified, that the "revolution" was organized by some internal and external centers and had geopolitical implications. In this case, we are interested in the people of Armenia, why did the people join and entrust the fate of the state to people from the street who have neither any political background and experience, nor any knowledge of state administration, what did they complain about and what did they expect?
These are questions that should have become subject of discussions and expert studies in the ensuing years, and these discussions should have been aimed at what was done wrong earlier and what should not be repeated in the future. Unfortunately, no such agenda was set due to the decline of the Armenian political thought.
This is a very intricate and extensive topic, however we will try to briefly outline the general picture. It would not be wrong to attribute one of the main reasons for what happened to the former authorities, who turned their backs on the ordinary citizens and drew the rank and file into vote selling during the elections, making them feel despised and neglected by the state.
In fact, there were "second class" underprivileged people in the state and there were privileged ones who, in fact, had privatized the state and committed injustice. Social elevators did not work. Hence, becoming an MP or a member of government was rather based on personal loyalty to the leader, involvement in corrupt transactions, and commonly practiced nepotism, than on merit (experience, education, knowledge, ability, etc.). All the above-mentioned practices drove the ordinary people away from the state.
In 2018, the populists came to power, led by the chief populist, who "loved" the people, was "proud" of them, "bowed down" to everyone and said that there were 3 million prime ministers in the country. Then he promised to dispossess the privileged, and, in general, he promised "mountains of gold". It allured, attracted and seduced people, and it was very late when they came to realize they were gravely deceived and facing many national problems - it turned out that "the king was naked."
Moreover, despite the permanent tragedies and losses, the failed group of demagogues continues to hold power with lies and manipulations. As for the acting opposition, after several failed attempts of regime change, it blames the poorly organized mass at the front of the Resistance movement or, at best, is satisfied with delivering patriotic speeches.
Of course, patriotism is important, but first of all, you need to be able to talk to people in a language they understand and about their problems. We witness the disastrous consequences of the "revolution" of rejection every day. Both realistic solutions and concepts, and a team of state-minded, competitive and resourceful managers, in short, a reliable alternative should be offered to the public. Otherwise, we will completely lose the last shreds of the opportunity to stop the state’s collapse.
