To date political and social institutions have not been effectively established in Armenia. Why? We have to face this issue with all its severity, especially now, when the incumbent government has become not only unacceptable for the vast majority of the public, but also has become a "disaster for the nation." In no way are we able to unite, organize and ultimately change the situation. Both the political and social institutions and the opposition are ineffective. The main problem, perhaps, is the lack of self-organizational capacity.
All the same, this seems to be the consequence, and the root cause is the lack of established interpersonal relations, more precisely, the lack of rules, on which all other institutions are based. Some call these rules national ideology, and at higher levels - culture, but the point is that civilizations are anchored on them.
At one time this problem was solved by means of the Abrahamic religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. In Judaism there are more than 600 commandments and rules, in Christianity - 10, in Islam it is Sharia with its complicated rules. What are these commandments about, for example, in Christianity, since we are a part of the civilization it had established? They are just about the rules on interpersonal relationships, simple rules that have gone through very difficult phases and once changed the world.
In the West, universal religious rules were replaced by secular rules, and new social ideologies emerged, which also tried to create interpersonal relations that corresponded to secular societies. Depending on what rules you introduce, you get an adequate society and public institutions, or you end up left out of civilization, like we are today.
There are no such rules, there is no public mutual trust, without which it is impossible to relate to each other, let alone become a political nation. By relating, we must understand solidarity and cooperation around common values and common goals that lead to change. Unfortunately, we do not have rules and principles to relate to each other, therefore we do not have mutual trust, solidarity and cooperation.
Why is the opposition not established in the political and public field? Because we have lost the universal goals and mutually acceptable values that unite us all. And if we put it more simply, we are losing our identity and it is not clear around what or in the name of what we should act together. Therefore, we should try to rediscover our identity, that is, to reinterpret the past and find new rules of relations that will allow us to once and for all turn over this black page of national chaos and self-destruction that has been opened since 2018.
