Europe: the world of collapsing dreams

European wars are called world wars, when we say modern civilization, we imply European civilization, when we say progress, we imply the evolution that is typical of Europe. This list may continue. In other words, Europe, in our perception, is the center of cultural, civilizational and technological developments in the world. Even the United States is perceived as the birth of a great European civilization and its important part.

In this respect, if we want to be a modern and civilized nation, and to keep pace with the times, we try to imitate Europe, to present ourselves as the bearer of the newest values of the ancient world. Europe is the guiding star of our aspirations and expectations, and from that point of view, the latest European project, the European Union, in our opinion, is what should be a model for us.

United Europe is, of course, a successful project. The main point is that after long wars, the peoples of this part of world have been able to agree on values such as respect for human rights, the rule of law, a culture of peaceful resolution of issues through negotiations, and so on. It has brought peace, well-being, the establishment of common standards and, most importantly, a common European identity.

In short, the utopian dreams of many thinkers have finally come true. As a result, all the nations of the European neighbors aspire to become European, that is, to join the European Union. This was the national desire of Ukrainians, Georgians, even Turks and many others for the last 30 years.

Now let's try to understand what would happen if the European project fails. What will these nations, as well as the EU members, dream about? It implies loss of identity, with all the consequences arising from that reality. The general frustration and value decline seems to be a logical expectation, and the inevitable happens, Europe and European civilization retreat. In terms of economic, production capacity, even culture, Europe has begun to give way.

Southeast Asia has become a financial and production center, where culture and technologies have begun to develop. Covid pandemic showed that Asia is more organized and has more efficient governance systems. In order for Europe to withstand this competition, it must increase its degree of sovereignty and be able to remain in the lead. But we are witnessing a completely different process.

The war in Ukraine has shaken the view that Europe is an island of stability and security. We see the exact opposite: the old world is becoming another source of instability. The European security system is shattered, the economy is dependent on foreign raw materials, most part of the markets is abroad, and politically Europe has become an attachment of the United States.

As a result of all this, a significant part of humanity loses its dream of imitating Europe, of becoming a part of it. The project of European prosperity and sustainability seems to diminish, taking away the development compass from many.
