Distorted perceptions: changing the thinking

The level of competence and efficiency of people in governance and in general, in everything or, in other words, the efficiency factor is determined by specific results of specific work, balancing the track record – the achieved successes and failures.

This seems a truism and an undeniable idea. Nonetheless, in Armenia, where the attitude in such matters is largely formed based on irrational ideas, it is not everyone that adequately perceives the formula given above.

No matter how strange it is, many people are guided by the simplest feelings of love and hate, and nepotism. For them, the benchmark of work efficiency is based on the principle of personal likes and dislikes of a given person or collective unit. This is naturally, an irrational approach and a common trait of Armenian thinking.

In any case, nowadays we witness such vicious occurrences. It is difficult to give a precise and unequivocal assessment of whether these distorted benchmarks come from early times or are originated in our days because our middle generation has always witnessed what was described above.

However, let us talk about what is going on nowadays in Armenia, since opinions about the previous governments before 2018 vary. And to be honest, most of those opinions are negative to a certain extent. Nevertheless, what we see with our own eyes since 2018 is simply unimaginable. It is not about minor omissions. We talk about national disasters, which the authorities from time to time shamelessly present as "unprecedented", "brilliant" success.

Let us try to grade very briefly, bringing together in a list the results of four and a half years of activity of the ruling government run by the Civil Contract political party: a/ lost war; b/ lost "era of peace"; c/ obvious failure of the promised reforms; d/ a government system brought to the brink of collapse; e/ foreign policy reduced to zero scale; f/ collapsed defense and security systems; g/ hopeless present and uncertain future; h/ a divided society turned into a mob and a nation that has become an object of ridicule and contempt. Unfortunately, the a-z list can be continued to the last letter of the alphabet.

Any decent society living in dignity would demand the resignation of its government, which would be followed by legal proceedings in case of the presence of even one of the above-mentioned failures. As we can see, in this shameful situation in our country, there are no public actions of protest demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister. And the reason for that is not only the lack of state figures inspiring public confidence or the deep apathy of the society.

The reason for that is also the distorted ideas of the evaluation of the current situation and the activity of the person managing that situation which, as mentioned above, is based on the widely spread irrational thinking. Therefore, in order to change our ideas, and lead in the right direction, we need to change our thinking.
